Discover untamed ecosystems in a setting of unsurpassed splendor, The Wilderness National Park is tucked away in the foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains at the center of South Africa's renowned Garden Route. Set against a backdrop of a thriving forest and noble mountains, encompassing a network of lakes, rivers, lagoons, fynbos, sandy beaches and the ocean.
The Ebb and Flow shelter in the northern camp was excavated for guano in the 1800’s. The cave was used as a shelter and living place of Khoi and San. Two skeletons were discovered and various implements. The famous Knysna Lourie with its rainbow plumage can be spotted on one of the beautiful nature trails that coil through the thick woodland alongside tranquil rivers, as well as the unique Kingfisher species.
A show of flowers that carpet the land surrounding the lakes, provides an appealing picture all through the spring time, adding to the exquisite beauty of this wetland park.
Wilderness is just the spot for that exciting action packed vacation. Visitors can encounter whales & dolphins from Dolphin Point, hire a bike and explore the mountains. Go fishing or boating, abseiling or kloofing, para gliding or hang gliding or climb to the waterfall above Ebb & Flow Rest camp. For a more relaxed experienced, guests can saunter along a woodland path & find the riches of the treasure trove of bird life, watch the world float by on a canoe or camp under the stars alongside the river. Whatever your needs are, they are sure to be fulfilled at The Wilderness National Park.
