Set within the neighborhood of the Cape Floral Kingdom in South Africa's Gorgeous Garden Route, with the majestic Langeberg Mountains as a captivating backdrop, Bontebok National Park is a place of primitive splendor and passive charm.
As part of a world heritage site, Bontebok National Park always offers something in bloom, for this Park is known for it's treasure trove of color. In 1931, the Park was announced to protect the remaining 30 Bontebok left in the wild and is extremely proud to boast its achievements in conservation, from the endangered fynbos veld type, coastal Renosterveld to the namesake bontebok!
Once these colorful antelope numbered a meagre 17, and through successful management we are pleased to announce that the current world population amounts to approximately 3000. Bontebok National Park proffers a great deal more for nature enthusiasts, from a variety of indigenous animal life to over 200 incredible bird species.
The Western Border of the Park includes the Breede River providing spectacular scenery, abundant bird life for the bird watchers, fishing and a revitalizing swimming spot. Whilst on an enchanting hiking trail or winding bike trip, visitors also can get a profound experience of Bontebok National Park's infinite sights and sounds.
Connect to the ancient inhabitants of the past and discover how the Khoisan survived and altered through local history. Come and take pleasure in all we have to proffer, from adventure or a lazy day barbecue to a tranquil stay in a Park of natural and enlightening serenity. The rest camp in the Park is named after the 'Hessekwa' khoi-khoi chieftain called 'Lang Elsie'.
