Yellowwood Creek

With its green hand-glazed ceramic tiled roof, Italian-styled columns and broad verandas, Yellowwood Creek lies at the foot of the Amatola mountains. The gardens and sweeping lawns slope down to the Cumakala River and dense yellowwood forest. The forest and surrounding area are inhabited by no less than one hundred and thirty-eight species of bird including Knysna louries and the rare Cape parrot, many of which are common seasonal visitors to the garden. The forest is also home to numerous animals such as bush buck, duiker, samango monkeys, bush pigs, wild cats and many others

Yellowwood Creek is only 4 kilometres from Stutterheim and less than an hour's drive from East London, and the stunning beaches of the wild cost. Picturesque Anderson dam, fed by a natural waterfall [click here for details] is a half hour's walk via a path in the forest and within 2 kilometres are other scenic trails of varying length leading to stunning waterfalls. For lovers of birds, plants and nature in general, the montane forest is a soul soothing paradise with its green canopy-filtered sunlight and a myriad of calls and cries. The famous Amatola mountain hikes are a short drive towards near by King William's Town. A short drive away through breathtaking scenery, renown Gubu dam provides excellent trout fishing and for golfers, the Stutterheim country club has a magnificent course just five minutes drive from Yellowwood Creek. Fifteen kilometres south of Stutterheim on the N6, Wrigglewade dam offers sailing and bass fishing. Guided walks are offered at no extra charge to guests.

Yellowwood Creek offers accommodation in two double-roomed suites with bathrooms and French doors onto the verandas, one of which has an adjoining room suitable for families with children. The main suite also has a dressing room and its own sitting area with television. We can presently provide accommodation for up to seven guests. In addition, there is a guest cottage-built in the nineteenth century- with its own bath (shower) room, mezzanine sleeping area and balcony with panoramic views of the forest.

We will happily provide other meals on request. Hikers, explores or guests preferring a packed lunch to breakfast, are welcome to packed lunches

The beautiful setting of Yellowwood Creek is ideal for functions and party luncheons. Get away for a weekend or just a day and relax in the ambiance of our mountainside setting. Please contact us to discuss your requirements including gourmet meals, alfresco and picnic lunches. Several secluded riverside spots are ideal for family or group picnics.
