St. Francis Bay
St Francis Bay is a picturesque holiday village, where whitewash and thatch lie alongside Sardinian styled villas among beautiful green-clad dunes. St Francis Bay is situated midway between Port Elizabeth and Knysna, it offers a delightful escape from the pressures of daily life in a haven of peace and tranquility.
Approximately half of the village has been constructed around the largest man made web of canals and waterways in South Africa. The Kromme River which is well known for wild flowers growing alongside its banks, winds its way to the Indian Ocean and provides a paradise for anglers, canoeists, surfers, windsurfers and all types of water-sport.
Nature lovers can loose themselves in this region of natural beauty, with superb hiking trails in the nature reserve. The bird life is also abundant in the St Francis Bay nature reserve. Dolphins and whales certainly seen playing alongside the surfers. Adjacent to St Francis Bay is the rustic fishing village of Cape St Francis, with its beautiful beach and great rock and surf angling. St Francis has a Mediterranean climate with generally mild temperatures ranging from 12ºC in winter to 30ºC in summer. St Francis is situated 100kms west of Port Elizabeth along the N2 to Cape Town. St Francis Bay has everything from water sports to world class golf courses and is worth a visit.
