In the early 1960s a wonderfully eccentric stone castle was built on a wild and dramatic sea cliff .It is situated on one of the most beautiful private properties in South Africa near the Robberg in Plettenberg Bay.It was constructed stone by stone that were carried from the tumbled rocks below.

The castle looks out over kilometres of private coastline, and, to secure its privacy, the large estate which surrounds it ,is a nature reserve. The family that has owned it for the last twenty eight years,rents it out when they are not there on holiday.

The entire Castle is available for the exclusive use of a maximum group of eight guests (ten by arrangement.) There are four double suites, all with stunning views. It is let on a staffed, self-catering basis. Breakfast is included. Various extra services including full catering, by arrangement.

The Castle on the Cliff is quirky and eccentric. It is decorated in a very casual, very comfortable, very relaxed way. Cushions are laid out every day on the palisaded clifftop terraces, so you can sunbathe listening to the waves breaking below. The Castle has four double suites, each with stunning views.It also has a bedroom with two single beds and a separate bathroom.

Room details:

All 4 master bedrooms have queen sized beds with spacious, en suite, private bathroom facilities and great views. Each bathroom has a bath, toilet, a shower, double vanities and heated bath rails. There are also three outdoor showers: two accessible through the bedrooms and one by the pool.

Other facilities include a barbecue, wood fired pizza oven, heated swimming pool, a lounge with a wonderful view, sea rock pools, flat screen plasma TV, DVD, VCR, a collection of DVD's and videos, satellite television, Bose music system and a collection of CD's, broadband internet access, full set of games and a fully equipped kitchen. The Camelot Spa is situated 1,2km from the villa.

You can also swim in the deep rock pool, scramble over the rocks among the rock pools or simply lie in the sun watching the waves roll in. Access to the coastline below the villa is through a cave - an adventure in itself.

No other property along the Garden Route comes close in terms of style and atmosphere.

Major internationally recognized car hire companies operate from the town and the surrounding airports. Private transfers to and from the airport and town, as well as the many adventure or leisure activities in the area and the ocean, are available by arrangement. However, own transport is recommended.

Staff

Jenni Craig and her husband John, the cook William Mntali and his wife Fellen live on the estate. Further staff-members are employed when larger groups arrive. They provide you with personal and discreet service for the duration of your stay. Milward is the gardener.

Food

Simple, healthy and delicious cooking is provided by our fully trained cook, William. His specialties are fresh fish and seafood served with local vegetables. Herbs and salad are from our own vegetable garden, pizza (possibly the best this side of Italy) and Portuguese chicken roasted in our own wood fired pizza oven.

Barbecues done on our outdoor grill is another favourite. William is also a specialist in vegetarian and low fat cooking. You can discuss the menus with him and choose what you want to eat. The shopping and the cooking for lunch and dinner are not included in the rental.
