The term “Garden Route” was conceptualised some decades ago to market and promote this extraordinarily beautiful coastal plain which lies between the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains on the north, and the Indian Ocean on the south. The “Garden” stretches along 140 kilometres of coastline between Still Bay in the west and Storm’s River in the east. It is rich in diversity and unparalleled in its beauty, dense in species with pristine fynbos dunes, towering indigenous forests, gentle meandering rivers through undulating valleys, interspersed with steep ravines and magnificent mountain ranges, plunging shoreline cliffs and rocky shores, as well as soft, sandy beaches and a succession of wonderfully varied lakes. The region offers virtually every conceivable aspect of natural beauty imaginable, and it is easy to see why it is often referred to as “the Garden of Eden”.A rich diversity of bird species thrive in this wide range of habitats, making this region a bird watcher’s paradise, and outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers revel in this idyllic platform. From Mossel Bay to Storm’s River there is an extensive range of leisure and entertainment opportunities, and Lake Views Cottage is centrally positioned, close to Knysna, to enjoy the vast majority of these. The region is renowned for its natural beauty and history, and has long been a lifestyle and tourist destination.
