St Sebastian Bay nestles between Cape Infanta and Cape Barracouta, with two estuaries, the mighty Breede River and the Duivenhoksriver. Infanta is one of the prime whale watching destinations in South Africa. The bay is a sanctuary for a large concentration of Southern Right whales who come annually to breed and raise their calves, before returning to the arctic.
With only approximately 180 houses and less than 50 permanent residents, Infanta is a little gem. Everyone is jealously guarding nature and the Breede River Conservancy was brought to being. The rocks in the surf zone teems with aquatic life and especially during spring tides the pools and flat banks keeps one fascinated for hours. This exclusive and safe piece of paradise offers a myriad of outdoor activities you can enjoy during your stay.
Infanta has a moderate temperature throughout the year and offers plenty of bird species to be seen by committed bird watchers as well as a wide variety of fynbos for nature lovers.
Big Dusky or Daga Cob with specimens of more than 50kg (100lb) is caught regularly in the river and at sea. The warm Agulhas and the cold Benguela currents meet less than 100km from Cape Infanta at Cape L'Agulhas, the southernmost tip of South Africa. The water temperature ranges from 14'C to a warm 24'C. A big variety of fish species can be found here.
