The best time to arrive at Trymore is in the early afternoon, because once settled you can go up to the main house and have a sumptuous tea with Marion, after which she will take you on a tour of Wellwood's unique fossil collection, which is housed in a special little museum near the homestead. An immaculately raked drive will be your first indication of the apple pie order to come at Trymore. Housekeeper Mimmie bustles out to greet you. Trymore is her special charge and her pride and joy.
In winter, a wonderful time to visit the Karoo, malachite sunbirds will be flitting through the salvia bushes in bloom along the fence and you may be tempted to sink immediately into one of the morris chairs on the deep stoep and simply gaze across the pastures and into the vast space around you. Resist and follow Mimmie into the utterly restful interior, to the lounge with its comfy armchairs and fire ready laid, the fresh flowers from Marion's garden the homemade kumquat liqueur on the sideboard and on to four large and airy double bedrooms. There's also a family size dining room and a fully equipped country kitchen if you want to prepare your own meals.
