Glentana
From the 1900s that started with just a handful of homes, the Garden Route gem of Glentana has grown into a fully fledged holiday paradise. Situated between the Western Cape cities of George and Mossel Bay, the origins of Glentana’s name are sketchy with the most popular explanation being that this seaside village is named after a particular whiskey that is still brewed in Northern Scotland today.
Though the Garden Route is one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles and a definite favourite holidaying destination amongst locals and foreigners alike, Glentana remains largely un-spoilt and un-congested – ideal really for a vacation away from the stress and strains of modern day life. Glentana is best known for its beaches that are topped by fynbos-covered cliffs and waves that reach epic heights and thunder into the shoreline at certain times of the day. Because of this, Glentana’s waters are perfect for water sports such as surfing, canoeing, parasailing, wakeboarding, wind-surfing, and jet skiing. An intriguing effect left behind by the crashing waves over time are the sea caves that are formed in their wake: travellers can find these caves just outside of Glentana and they include the Glentana Cave, the caves of Windlass Beach, Jessica’s Cave, and Helm’s Hole.
