Dana Bay
Set in the heart of the scintillating Cape Floral Kingdom and part of the famous Garden Route is Dana Bay. Dana Bay is often mistaken as another suburb of Mossel Bay, but in fact it is a very important conservancy within South Africa as it is home to fine coastal and limestone variations of fynbos. The limestone fynbos in particular, which is under threat from the effects of global warming, is rich in species and plays a crucial role in supporting a high number of endemic species throughout the floral kingdom.
Because of its conservancy status, visitors to Dana Bay has the unique opportunity of not only viewing a marvellous array of dazzling plants, but the area is rich in wildlife too; steenbok, bushbuck, Cape Francolins, and mongooses roam freely throughout the area. If this is not enough, the bay provides a wonderful bird watching experience with an impressive 85 bird species, including a colony of black oyster catchers, on display. Dana Bay is tranquil and idyllic; with its pristine stretch of sandy blue beaches it has become an attractive holiday paradise for travellers around the country.
The beaches here are in immaculate condition and are free from noise and other disturbances meaning you can take long, indulgent walks, enjoy a romantic picnic during sunset with that special someone, or spend quality time with the kids as you swim or even fly kites. Dana Bay is furthermore blessed with an enviable location: it is far enough from the hustle and bustle of city life, but it is also in close proximity to shops, museums, a harbour where yachting can be enjoyed, and other eco-friendly adventures.
